We
were very impressed with how modern Santiago is; huge malls, sushi,
Starbucks coffee. While
we waited for a new camera to be Fedexed from NY Arelis took up and rapidly became a great Windsurfer. |

The
Central
Valley south of Santiago was a nice drive with all the vineyards, fresh
fruits and sunflowers growing along the side of the
road.
Once off the Pan American there are beautiful small towns,
lakes
and waterfalls. |

The
Lake District especially around Villarrica, Pucon, Panguipilli,
Petrohue, Chiloe, were so green,
that with the contrast of the white snow and many shades of
blue in the lakes was very picturesque. That, plus the cozy
little towns, good restaurants, shops etc it is not
surprising that many Chileans holiday here. A better name for the area
would
be the lake and volcano district - there's always a volcano over your
shoulder. |

The
Deep South / Patagonia- it is getting colder, more rain and
longer days. In many
ways the South reminds us of Alaska and some parts of Canada. We could
only image this area with a clear blue sky, the glaciers, waterfalls,
rivers, lakes and mountains.

The North - our
first
taste of Chile a while back. So good was it that
we added
our photos here too. The Atacama
Desert, one of the driest places on earth, had fantastic scenery with
salt
flats, geysers, wildlife and the backdrop of the Andes. Plus one of the
most beautiful lakes we have
seen, surrounded by mountains,
volcanoes, snow and all the desert.
