North
West Peru, entered from Ecuador, our first impressions were not good -
waste management was badly missing - rubbish, vultures and rats
everywhere. However, some impressive ruins, good campsites and
lots of desert improved things. |

Most
people traveling through Peru come through North East Peru on the
way south, however, we chose to zig zag. Really bad roads, no
signs, but great scenery and largely untouched by most tourists; we
traveled with a couple from Holland who bounced around in the back -
Ellen and Pierre. |

Huraz
and the White Mountains proved to be very scenic. High in
altitude going for a run was tough, though not for our hosts at Lazy
Dog Lodge. They were off to NYC to do the marathon at the
beginning of November and I'm sure would find it a breeze, low down at
sea level.

Nasca
Lines - impressive, they make no sense, but impressive non the
less. Best views are from the air - and what a ride - Mum
pucked, I felt bloody awful and some Japanese lady on the plane smelt
like she lost control top and bottom. Those with weak stomachs should watch
the video & don't take the plane. Nearby we found cool whale and shark fossils. |

We arrived in Cusco a few days
before our Machu Picchu hike. Machu Picchu was amazing, but
the hike up there equaled it. Many different ruins, the
actual Inca trail and the views. The Incas did not chose the easiest
places to build. Mum chose not to hike, so we met her at Machu Picchu. |

Southern Peru - in search of condors, more Inca ruins, Lake Titicaca, the Oros Islands and more. |
